Memory & Architecture

Khrzhanovskiy's work in recent years has extended beyond cinema into memorial, institutional, and architectural forms.

From 2020 onward, this work has been closely connected with the Babi Yar Holocaust Memorial Center in Kyiv, while also continuing through documentary co-productions and film company building.

Babi Yar Holocaust Memorial Center

Since 2020, Khrzhanovskiy has served as Artistic Director of the Babi Yar Holocaust Memorial Center in Kyiv. The center combines research, memorial work, architecture, and public installation.

The projects developed there include Mirror Field, Tree, the wooden synagogue Place for Reflection, and the Crystal Crying Wall created by Marina Abramovic.

Companies and co-productions

Between 2009 and 2011, Khrzhanovskiy founded Phenomen Ukraine Ltd., Phenomen Berlin Filmproduktions GmbH, and Phenomen UK Ltd.

As a co-producer, he later worked on Sergei Loznitsa's documentaries Babi Yar. Context and The Kiev Trial, two films concerned with historical memory, archives, and the afterlives of violence.
