Background, purpose, and the awards the project received in 2022 and 2023.
Public Life
Khrzhanovskiy's recent public life has been marked by anti-war speech, memorial work, and several highly visible personal decisions after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
These events sit alongside his artistic and institutional work rather than apart from it.

During a live broadcast on Dozhd, he commented on the Russian missile strike that hit Babi Yar and called on Russians to protest. The channel was closed the next day.
Closed Eyes
In August 2022, the Babi Yar Holocaust Memorial Center launched Closed Eyes, an online memorial that documents civilian victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war between 2014 and 2023.
The project extends Khrzhanovskiy's work on memory into a digital form meant to hold individual names, lives, and losses in public view.
