Closed Eyes

Closed Eyes was launched in August 2022 by the Babi Yar Holocaust Memorial Center. It was conceived as a complete martyrology of civilian victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war between 2014 and 2023.

The project gathers individual records into a digital memorial, extending the center's work on historical memory into the present.

Project

Rather than presenting the war through aggregate numbers, Closed Eyes centers each victim as an individual life. In that sense, it belongs to the same line of work in which memory depends on names, traces, and sustained attention.

The project also marks a shift from physical memorial architecture toward a public online form that remains accessible across borders.
